Start small, but work on this each week until everything has a home.
Start easy:
Look around and pick something that needs a home. Decide where it lives and move it there right now... Don't worry, I'll wait.

My suggestion: Dirty laundry... Put it in the "dirty laundry spot" not to be mistaken as the floor...
